Blackhawks Officially Terminate Corey Perry's Contract

Inappropriate Behavior Leads to Contract Termination

Chicago Blackhawks general manager Kyle Davidson has officially terminated the contract of forward Corey Perry following what he described as "inappropriate behavior." The announcement comes after Perry was placed on unconditional waivers on Tuesday, allowing the team to terminate his contract effective immediately.

In a statement, Perry apologized for his actions, saying "I take full responsibility for my behavior and I am deeply sorry for the hurt and disappointment I have caused." The NHL and NHL Players Association have also reached an undisclosed settlement to resolve the situation.

Perry, a 38-year-old veteran, joined the Blackhawks in October after spending the previous season with the Montreal Canadiens. He has a history of inappropriate behavior, including a suspension for elbowing Minnesota Wild forward Ryan Suter in 2019. The Blackhawks have not disclosed the specific nature of Perry's behavior that led to his contract termination.

The termination of Perry's contract marks a significant development in the Blackhawks' efforts to rebuild their culture and image following several scandals in recent years. The team's former general manager, Stan Bowman, was fired in October after an independent investigation found that he had mishandled sexual assault allegations against a former coach. The Blackhawks are also facing a lawsuit from former player Kyle Beach, who alleges that he was sexually assaulted by a former video coach in 2010.
